About Lake Hazen

Lake Hazen is an extraordinary lake located in the northernmost part of Ellesmere Island, in Nunavut, Canada. It is renowned for being the largest lake in North America's High Arctic region. With a surface area of approximately 500 square kilometers, this glacially-fed lake serves as a prominent attraction for boaters and enthusiasts of boat recreation activities.

Despite its impressive size, Lake Hazen is relatively shallow, with an average depth of around 27 meters. Its maximum depth reaches just over 87 meters. The waters of Lake Hazen are characterized by their stunning turquoise hue, a result of the glacial sediments suspended in the lake. Boating in this breathtaking environment offers visitors the opportunity to witness awe-inspiring icebergs drifting in the distance as they navigate this pristine Arctic gem.

While the extreme Arctic climate restricts the variety of species found in Lake Hazen, it still inhabits a few unique aquatic creatures. The lake supports an array of fish species, including Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) and lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush). These cold-water fish provide an excellent opportunity for anglers to indulge in their favorite pastime, with ice fishing being a popular activity during the winter months.
